Fresh Meat gives voice to young architectural firms

A new collective has been established to raise the profile of architectural practices set up in the past ten years in the North West.

Fresh Meat was established by Ollier Smurthwaite, based in Manchester's Castlefield, to showcase work and encourage collaboration. The first Fresh Meat collaboration will be an exhibition at the Cube Gallery, Manchester in the new year. Titled "Rethinking the City: Ideas for a self sufficient revolution" it will present Fresh Meat members' work around the theme of re-imagining Manchester's urban centre providing innovative hypothetical proposals for real sites in the city, focusing on ideas to tackle climate change, reducing energy use and exploring the potential to create a self sufficient city.

Matt Ollier, co-founder of Fresh Meat and Ollier Smurthwaite, said: "Fresh Meat is all about young companies, like ours, working together and sharing ideas to provide our clients with the best possible solutions – being innovative, commercially astute and particularly focusing on how building design and construction can play its part in tackling the climate change. We aim to be the collective voice for young architects across the region."
