Huyton JV moves to phase two
HBD Barnfield has secured detailed consent for a Euro Garages service station at its 11.5-acre Beacon 62 development, following the autumn completion of an Aldi supermarket at the site.
HBD Barnfield is a joint venture partnership between property developer HBD and Barnfield Group: the partners are also working together on an industrial scheme near Preston.
Barnfield Construction has undertaken all building works on the Huyton site, which is adjacent to both the M62 and M57.
The 18,000 sq ft Aldi store opened to the public in September, as Barnfield’s fifth contract with the supermarket group following jobs in Clitheroe, St Helens, Burscough and Rhyl.
Phase two will now start, a development that will see a 2.5-acre plot occupied by a filling station, McDonald’s and Starbucks for expansive Lancastrian retail business Euro Garages.
The third phase at Beacon 62 is for a six-acre plot that has outline planning permission for business and industrial uses and full planning permission for a car dealership. Savills and Mason Owen are appointed as joint agents.
Tracy Clavell-Bate, head of development for Barnfield Group, said: “In a difficult climate, we’re pleased to have successfully delivered the first phase of what will be a popular, vibrant mixed-use scheme, and are looking forward to starting phase two.”
Dan Lawrenson, development surveyor at HBD – formerly Henry Boot Developments – said: “Beacon 62 is an important gateway site, which will bring significant investment into the area and create a notable number of new jobs.”
In October last year, Euro Garages’ parent company EG Group last year hit national headlines in announcing the £6.8m acquisition of supermarket group Asda from Walmart, a deal that still requires clearance from the Competition & Markets Authority.
I’m sure the Tesco garage 150 yards away will be pleased.
