£10m revamp planned for Wirral coast
Wirral Council is to redevelop the coastline between Rock Ferry and Eastham including the Royal Mersey Yacht Club.
The derelict Admiral Pub will be brought back into use to provide members with improved facilities and a new clubhouse capable of hosting national and international sailing events.
Cllr Moira McLaughlin, ward councillor for Rock Ferry, said: "These proposals by the yacht club are very exciting and most importantly, deliverable. They will transform the waterfront and open it up both for water based and recreational uses which will benefit the whole community.
"We having been trying for many years to regenerate this area of Wirral and I will be lobbying the external funding agencies to provide the money which will make these proposals a reality."
Other parts of the plan include:
- Refurbishing a neglected pier and improving the esplanade
- Reclaiming Bromborough landfill site as green space
- Improving links from coast back to Rock Ferry, New Ferry and Port Sunlight by creating new access routes to the A41 bypass
The work will be part-funded by the North West Development Agency.
