Westchurch takes a run at tricky Bolton site

The developer is bidding to deliver 137 homes on a plot off Darcy Lever where another housebuilder failed to secure consent.

Westchurch Homes has submitted a planning application to redevelop 11 acres off Radcliffe Road.

The developer will be hoping to fare better than Morris Homes, which had plans for a smaller scheme on the same site rejected last year.

Bolton Council went against the recommendation of its planning department and refused Morris Homes application due to Green Belt concerns.

Eight of the 115 homes proposed were located on the part of the site located in the Green Belt.

Morris has submitted an appeal to the Planning Inspectorate and is awaiting a decision. Meanwhile, Westchurch Homes is has drawn up plans for the site’s redevelopment into a 100% affordable scheme.

The development would feature a mix of one-, two-, three-, and four-bedroom homes that would ultimately be owned and operated by a registered provider.

MCK Associates is leading on design and Lichfields is advising Westchurch on planning matters.
