West Bay hopeful for Pall Mall office tower

A 250,000 sq ft office development proposed by Northern Irish developer West Bay Capital on the edge of Liverpool's commercial district is being recommended to receive consent by council planners.

West Bay plans two buildings of eight and 18 storeys designed by Broadway Malyan architects at 30 Pall Mall. There would be basement car parking, retail on the ground floor and a glazed courtyard.

The application is due to be discussed at the planning committee meeting on Tuesday 27 October and is recommended in a report by officers for approval.

The scheme fits economic development agency Liverpool Vision's plans to extend the commercial district through St Paul's Square and into Pall Mall towards Leeds Street. Public-private developer English Cities Fund is in talks with Vision and partners over a masterplan for a large part of the area that could see 1m sq ft of new commercial space built.

Ashley Moore, director of West Bay, said: "We always viewed this as an important site that would signify the expansion of Liverpool's office economy."
