VIDEO | Driving Bolton’s residential-led renaissance
Laying the groundwork for more people to live in the town centre is a key pillar of the council’s plan to inject life back into post-retail Bolton. Taking this idea and running with it, BTR developer Placefirst is nearing completion of 167 homes slap bang in the middle of Greater Manchester’s largest town.
Town centres that fail to move with the times risk being left behind. In Bolton, the council and its private sector partners are bidding to rejuvenate the town centre by consolidating a sprawling retail offer and building homes for people.
The idea is simple: more homes means more people, which will increase footfall in the town centre and provide a boost for local businesses.
Place went to learn more about Placefirst’s Deansgate Gardens development, which epitomises this approach.
The project, which will complete next year, comprises the transformation of a three-acre brownfield site opposite the former Beales department store into Deansgate Gardens, Bolton’s newest residential community.
