Stirling odds stacked against North West
With a week to go before the winner of the 2014 RIBA Stirling Prize is announced, the odds are not looking good for the two shortlisted North West buildings, according to bookmaker William Hill.
The rebuilt Everyman Theatre and the new home of Manchester School of Art are competing with the Library of Birmingham, London Aquatics Centre, London School of Economics Saw Swee Hock Student Centre and The Shard for the architectural accolade.
William Hill has tipped the London School of Economics as the frontrunner at 11/8, followed by equal odds on The Shard and London Aquatics Centre at 7/2. Everyman Theatre is fourth at 9/2, while the odds are stacked against the Manchester School of Art and the Library of Birmingham, both at 10/1.
The £13.3m Everyman Theatre in Liverpool was designed by Haworth Tompkins for Liverpool & Merseyside Theatres Trust.
The £23.6m Manchester School of Art was designed by Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios for Manchester Metropolitan University.
More than 50 buildings in the UK and Europe received RIBA National Awards in June and formed the long list from which the six finalists were selected.
