Salford Uni wins media academy status

University of Salford has been recognised as a Skillset Media Academy, officially becoming a centre of excellence in television and interactive media.

As a media academy, the university's School of Media, Music & Performance will work with industry partners to develop new curricula, progress teaching and world-class research, and help students to become more employable in the media sector.

Salford was selected by industry evaluators drawn from the education sector and the television, interactive media and post-production industries. The final selection was made by a panel chaired by Greg Dyke, former Director General of the BBC.

Salford was the first university in Greater Manchester to sign a partnership agreement with the BBC and will be opening a higher education centre, pictured, next to the corporation at Media City UK, Salford Quays in 2011.
