Rooftop Solutions finishes Manchester Airport project

The Bolton-based roofing and cladding business has completed a £1.5m refurbishment scheme at Manchester Airport's World Freight Terminal.

The external upgrade and improvement works was carried out over a period of eight months.

The terminal's cladding, of red, white and black stripes, was replaced by grey coloured cladding to match the exterior of the airport's three passenger terminals.

The project has also included upgrading insulation and replacement of existing roof lights to provide natural lighting within the World Freight Terminal buildings, along with replacing rainwater pipes and relining the guttering.

Mark Colbert, contracts director at Rooftop Solutions, said: "This was a huge project and somewhat unique as the World Freight Terminal is in operation 24-hours a day, 365-days a year, with a variety of businesses based there – all in addition to the stringent security requirements of an international airport."

Rooftop Solutions is based at Wingates Industrial Park, Westhoughton in Bolton, Greater Manchester.

MAG Developments is responsible for the management and development of all the commercial property and land at Manchester Airport. Part of the Manchester Airports Group, which also includes East Midlands, Bournemouth and Humberside airports, MAG Developments' £320m group-wide portfolio comprises over 200 properties across 5,000 acres, serving over more than 850 companies.

MAG's World Freight Terminal deals with cargo aircraft and freight consignments that arrive or depart in the holds of passenger aircraft at Manchester Airport. In 2010 this equated to around 120,000 tonnes.

The World Freight Terminal was opened in November 1985.
