Regeneration Liverpool completes college

The joint venture between regeneration company Sigma Inpartnership and Liverpool City Council has finished work on the 120,000 sq ft St John Bosco Arts College in Stonebridge.

The development of the three-storey building was undertaken by Regeneration Liverpool's affiliate partner, Neptune Developments, working with Sigma Inpartnership. Vinci Construction was the contractor.

The all-girls Catholic comprehensive school, which has 1,100 pupils, has a particular specialism in visual and performing arts, so the creation of high quality theatre facilities was a particular focus of the scheme.

St Johns Bosco School The new school was constructed next to the existing school site. Phase two has now started which will see the demolition of the old school and conference centre to make way for a new external play and sports area, along with parking to support the new school.

The development forms part of Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson's target to deliver 12 new secondary, primary and special schools in the area. Around £170m is being invested, made up of council funds, borrowing and central government grant.

Anderson said: "Pupils, staff and parents have been waiting a long time for the new school and I know they are absolutely delighted with it. It will ensure generations of local children will get a top class education. This is an exciting time for the Croxteth area as it enters a new era, with new leisure and shopping developments also in the pipeline and the nearby park being built alongside the River Alt."
