Pugh upbeat after strong first-half results

Property auctioneer Pugh & Co reported more than £33.5m sales at its Manchester auctions during the first half of the year.

Paul Thompson, director and auctioneer at Pugh & Co, said: "Our results year-on-year continue to show growth in lots offered and sales values achieved.

"The Manchester auctions are thriving and have been really popular with customers who appreciate the choice and quality of commercial and residential lots offered.

"We have seen strong demand, particularly in the residential sector, with the stamp duty concession and recent figures showing increased mortgage lending."

The most recent auction held at Manchester United FC netted £7.9m. At this sale, 87 of the 139 lots on offer sold. Showroom warehouse Fourgates Mill on Chorley Road, Bolton was guided between £70,000 and £80,000 and sold for £162,000.

Across all four auction venues – Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and Newcastle – Pugh & Co has so far raised £46.3m in sales this year.

The catalogue for entering lots into the September round of auctions closes on 8 August.
