Proposals revealed for Altrincham Regent Road redevelopment

Developer Citybranch has unveiled plans for its latest project in Altrincham, a mixed-use residential and commercial scheme on the town’s Regent Road car park.

At a public consultation on Saturday, the developer showcased designs for the project, prepared by architect Project 3 and landscape architect Planit IE.

The development will provide a 70 apartments across two blocks, with a mix of studio, one and two-bed flats, alongside six commercial units at ground floor level. It will also include a multi-storey car park with space for 300 cars.

Two commercial blocks will front Regent Road opposite Central Way, with another block facing Lloyd Square.

The car park will be operated by Trafford Council, with vehicular access via New Street.

As well as the residential, commercial, and car park aspects, the project also includes a public square and improvements to the site’s Regent Road frontage to increase permeability with the surrounding town centre. According to consultation documents, “the overall quality” of the square will be similar to Goose Green, another of the town’s public squares.

The proposals also include improvements to Railway Street to increase access to the new development and to Altrincham Hospital.

The site is currently home to the 147-space Regent Road car park and public toilets, which will be demolished to make way for the scheme. Other neighbouring buildings, including Thai restaurant Phanthong, will be retained.

Following the consultation, a planning application is due to be submitted before the end of the year.

The Regent Road project sits near one of Citybranch’s other developments in the town, a health and wellbeing centre on the site of the former Altrincham hospital.

Contractor Bowmer & Kirkland is currently on site at the project, which will include GP surgeries, a pharmacy, and café, as well as a new library for Trafford Council.

The developer also completed Altrincham’s new £17m hospital in 2015, which was built by Pochin’s.

Awful far to high, not in keeping with surrounding buildings and will completely block the light of the houses on the opposite side of the street!
