Preston set to approve 600 homes

Preston City Council’s planning committee is due to meet on Thursday next week with recommendations to approve more than 600 new homes across the former Ridings Depot, Innovation House in Sizer Street and a major site north of Eastway.

HOW Planning, on behalf of Prospect GB, has had its reserved matters application for a 113-home scheme at the former Ridings depot and land north and south of Whittingham Road recommended for approval. This 11-acre site is part of a wider area of residential development west of Longridge.

Ladson Preston, working with DAY Architecture, has also received a recommendation for approval, with conditions, for a scheme at Innovation House that will see the demolition of disused industrial buildings and their replacement by two four-storey student accommodation buildings, offering a total of 218 self-contained studio apartments. The scheme sits within the area the University of Central Lancashire deems appropriate for new student dwellings.

Story Homes’ proposal to build up to 300 homes with supporting retail and community facilities on a 64-acre site north of Eastway has also been recommended for approval. The site already has outline consent and sits within an area classed as a strategic location for housing within the Preston Local Plan.

Plans for a 58-apartment scheme at Bridge House in Tabley Lane have been recommended for refusal, due to concerns over the impact of traffic and because the scheme would “constitute piecemeal development within the North West Preston Strategic Location, failing to pay regard to the principles of sustainable development and connectivity entrenched within the masterplan”.
