Plans in for padel courts in Liverpool shed
Ignite Padel has submitted proposals for a 34,000 sq ft indoor facility in Hunt’s Cross.
The applicant is seeking a temporary permission of three years to convert the former Plus Packaging warehouse off Gaskell Road into a facility featuring 11 courts.
The complex would also have a cafe and changing rooms and would open daily from 6am to midnight.
The scheme is one of two padel complexes it plans to open before the end of the year.
Ignite currently has three operational venues, all of which opened last year. They are at Cheshire Oaks, on Queens Drive, and in Speke.
The Hunt’s Cross venue, which will have a bar, coffee shop, and retail store, is expected to open in July with a fifth as-yet-unnamed site due to launch before the end of the year.
Padel, a cross between tennis and squash, is understood to be the fastest growing sport in the UK and demand from players has sparked a deluge of planning applications to covert disused land and warehouses into courts across the country.
