Peel returns for third try at Bolton golf club
Peel L&P’s housebuilding arm, Northstone, wants to bring forward 150 homes at the site of Horwich Golf Club, in a scheme 50% smaller than its first application.
The scaled-back proposals follow Bolton Council’s decision to refuse two previous applications, one for 300 homes in 2018, and another for 276 homes earlier this year.
The developer has lodged an appeal against the most recent refusal and the latest application will run in parallel to the appeal, according to Peel L&P.
By including significantly fewer homes than in previous applications, Northstone’s latest proposal is able to offer a large portion of the site for community use, the company added.
Northstone is also on site to deliver the 150-home Silkash development in Westhoughton, having received planning permission last summer.
Jon England, development director at Northstone, said: “We recognise that development of Horwich Golf Club has proven sensitive within the local community, but we are currently drawing up plans we strongly believe will respond to the feedback received on the previous applications.”
Northstone will launch a public consultation into the latest iteration of the controversial scheme in the coming weeks.
