Peel expects Cheshire waste power plant decision in November
The Planning Inspectorate is due to give its decision on the controversial plans by Peel Holdings subsidiary Peel Environmental to build a 'green' power station on the banks of the Mersey in November.
A public inquiry was held over seven weeks in the spring as Peel sought to overturn Cheshire council's decision to reject its planning applications in 2006.
Peel plans to build an incinerator to recycle waste and generate electricity on a 250-acre site alongside the Manchester Ship Canal in Ince Marshes, near Helsby.
Local opposition by residents claimed it would threaten their health and quality of life.
Peel argued that the facility would help minimise landfill and the need to use fossil fuels to generate power. The plans include an advanced environmental technologies centre with road, rail and water access from shipping berths on the canal.
