Ogden’s factory set for residential conversion
Countryside Properties and Liverpool Mutual Homes’ plans for 150 homes on the site of the former Ogden’s Tobacco Factory in Everton are to be discussed by Liverpool City Council tomorrow.
The factory was opened on the site in 1900 and ceased trading in 2007.
The 8.5-acre plot is made up of 250,000 sq ft of vacant office and warehouse buildings. This includes the former office and clock tower which fronts Boundary Lane and is grade two-listed.
The plans propose the conversion of the office into 19 apartments, and the demolition of all other buildings on the site to make way for 133 homes.
The houses will range from between one- and four-bedrooms.
The application has been recommended for approval by the council’s head of planning at the committee meeting tomorrow.
A report ahead of the meeting said: “The future of the existing listed building would be secured and brought back into use and the layout has been designed in such a way so as to take account of the constraints on the site and to ensure the existing setting of the listed building is protected and enhanced.”
