NWDA seeks developer for mixed-use East Manchester scheme
The North West Development Agency is bringing a mixed-use development opportunity to market on the W Howarth Metals plant site in Ancoats, Manchester.
W Howarth is currently building a new aluminium recycling plant in Ardwick and the NWDA has acquired its outgoing base, 3.2 acres, on Jersey Street, Ancoats.
Ian Haythornthwaite, NWDA executive director of resources, said: "The agency has been working closely with W Howarth Metals to secure its relocation to a more suitable area in east Manchester.
"The move will unlock the potential of the Jersey Street site and help to pave the way for its redevelopment. This will play an important part in the drive to transform Ancoats into a new urban village, benefiting surrounding developments and local residents."
The NWDA said it is on course to have invested over £68m, levering £322m of private sector investment, in turning Ancoats "into a vibrant urban village" by the end of the Jersey Street project.
