Work to start on Merchant Taylors’ redevelopment

Todd & Ledson has been appointed as quantity surveyor on a major redevelopment of Merchant Taylors' Schools in Crosby, Sefton, which recently won planning consent.

The rest of the team on the project includes architect Saunders Bell, Alan Johnston Partnership as structural engineer, KGA Partnership as mechanical and electrical engineer, and Pro CDM as safety coordinators.

The project will contain a new hall, several classrooms, resource rooms, practice rooms and a dedicated library as well as a fully equipped medical room and other rooms for art, music and drama.

Work is expected to begin in summer 2013 and the project is due to be completed by 2015.

Peter Batey, chairman of governors, said: "This new build underlines our confidence in the future and, with our current vision of improvement, will ensure that the schools remain as strong for many more years to come as well as providing state of the art facilities for our current pupils."

Phil Waring, partner at Todd & Ledson, said: "This is one of a number of projects we have won recently in the education sector, including current projects with Liverpool Community College, University of Liverpool, Edge Hill University, a recent framework appointment by Lancaster University, and also a scheme for a large private school in London."
