Showing the construction of the more than 80,000 sq ft facility over six years, the video depicts the demolition of the University of Central Lancashire’s Fylde building in Preston to make room for the three-storey building and associated public square.

The project completed this summer.

“It’s easy to forget the old Fylde building and surrounding landscape but this video depicts vividly the dramatic transformation which has taken place over the past six years,” said UCLan vice-chancellor Graham Baldwin.

“Our new student centre has already received great feedback from students, staff and visitors to our campus while the University Square has hosted a number of major events including the Lancashire Science Festival, our graduation ceremonies and university open days, welcoming thousands of visitors in the process,” Baldwin said.

The student centre and square are part of the university’s £200m masterplan project which aimed to improve the visitor experience.

The building was designed by Hawkins\Brown Architects and built by Bowmer+Kirkland. Plincke was the landscape architect and Planit-IE designed the public realm. Aecom acted as project manager for the scheme. BDP was the design engineer, planning consultant and acoustics consultant.

UCLan’s student centre and University Square claimed the Lancashire sub-regional project of the year award at the North West Regional Construction Awards this year.
