Urban Splash puts in plans for Stubbs Mews
The developer has put forward proposals for 18 homes in New Islington, Manchester, to be delivered under its modular brand House.
The site next to the Ashton Canal is between the refurbished Stubbs Mill workspace and the Carruthers Street bridge; this is roughly opposite the completed Milliners Wharf apartment development.
Stubbs Mill, also developed by Urban Splash, is now flexible office space and was fully let to sports brand Fanatics in late 2016.
Urban Splash’s application is for 18 homes, all under the House modular brand; these will be arranged in two stepped rows of nine units, entered from podium level. There is car parking at lower ground floor level for each of the houses.
A consultation was held on the proposals last summer, where Urban Splash also outlined plans for a further 33 family homes and 60 apartments fronting Lockyard Lane and Keepers Quay;
This site has already seen Urban Splash build a number of modular homes under its House brand, and subject to planning the next phase is due to start on site in early 2019.
The professional team includes architect Shedkm and planner NJL Consulting.
I have tried and tried to like these modular home things but just can’t. Basically the same thing over and over in different places regardless of the context. Even traditional terraced housing doesnt do this. No thanks.

At ‘No Thanks’, how do you propose we address the housing crisis in this country? Get the brick-layers out en masse? This country needs to come up with contemporary solutions to a contemporary problem

No Thanks – Modular buildings come in different shapes and sizes just like traditional homes.
