Tesco takes former Somerfield in Cheadle

Tesco has taken a lease on 4,766 sq ft at 11 Wilmslow Road, Cheadle, South Manchester.

Tesco will trade as a Tesco Express store at the ground floor unit, which is owned by the Upper Room Trust, on a new 15-year lease. St. Mary's Church uses the upper floor and Somerfield supermarket previously traded from the ground floor unit.

Justin Mortimer of Cheetham & Mortimer, comments, "Cheadle has previously shown demand for a local supermarket to complement its existing retail and leisure offer and Tesco has been able to take advantage of this ideal position in the village centre. We've worked well with Tesco to ensure our client, the Trust, has been able to improve its own facilities above the intended supermarket and we trust the relationship will be a continued success."

G L Hearn acted for Tesco.
