Simpson to join Stockport Council

Caroline Simpson, executive director of economic growth and prosperity at Cheshire East Council, is set to move to neighbouring authority Stockport as director of regeneration.

Simpson is part of Cheshire East’s corporate leadership team, and was the officer in charge of the authority’s local plan. The plan is currently under examination after a period of suspension by a Government planning inspector, allowing the council to submit additional evidence and revise its site allocations.

Prior to joining Cheshire East Council, Simpson was previously head of partnerships at the North West Development Agency.

In December, Cheshire East Council leader Cllr Michael Jones resigned, over allegations of improper conduct around the award of contracts to a physiotherapy firm.

Cheshire East’s Conservative group is due to meet on Thursday 14 January to elect a new leader.

There was no response from Simpson, Cheshire East Council or Stockport Council following Place North West’s request for comment.
