Russell Homes submits Pemberton plans

Two separate planning applications have been submitted to Wigan Council for a mixed-use scheme in Pemberton.

The first application is for outline planning approval on land, which extends to approximately 12-acres to the south of Leopold Street and is in need of redevelopment, to be used for residential and commercial use. The second relates to a full site remediation of the land proposed for commercial use.

Carol Clarke, associate at HOW Planning, which submitted both applications on behalf of Russell Homes UK, said: "The preparation of the planning applications for Russell Homes has been a complex process given the sites relationship to existing residential and industrial uses which due considered have been given to; consequently the applications are supported by a full suite of technical documents overall we believe the plans will help maximise the opportunities for the area presented by the land.

"It is anticipated the new commercial floorspace could generate in the region of 100 new job opportunities, these schemes would also help prevent long term anti-social behaviour issues that could possibly arise if the land remains left unattended, which is something that no-one wants to happen."

The site is close to a number of bus routes and a railway station, as well as several local facilities.
