Rotheram launches Liverpool City Region manifesto
The overwhelming favourite to become the first mayor of Liverpool City Region, Labour’s Steve Rotheram, has published his five-point manifesto with little over a month to go before polling.
The Liverpool Walton MP and 1/20 odds-on favourite – a £1.00 winning bet would return £1.05 – has set out actions around five priority areas under the headings “ambitious, fair, green, connected and together”.
Specific measures include calling on government to review the “unfair and detrimental impact of current tolling proposals for the Mersey Gateway Bridge”.
He pledges to ensure Liverpool is part of the high-speed rail network, not currently assured, and backs new stations for Liverpool Knowledge Quarter and direct services from Liverpool to North Wales through Wirral, currently a change in Birkenhead is required.
There are measures to promote skills and social inclusion to improve the chances for people in the city region who have not felt the effects of regeneration. Rotheram said his vision is driven by “fairness and social justice”.

Awful literature in the letterbox from his team. Just because he is a brickie from Kirkby who served time in the Falklands doesn’t make him a good choice for City Region Mayor. Quite the opposite. Give us Green or Lib Dem over this rubbish any day

Was there nowhere between Widnes and Wirral, or even Wakefield, that Mr Rotherham could find to publicise his quest to support Merseyside businesses?

The leaflets being sent out promoting Rotheram are full of dross about the NHS and job centres. All very worthwhile causes I’m sure, but nothing to do with what the Metro Mayor will have responsibility for. I refuse on principle to vote for an organisation that insults the people of Liverpool’s intelligence like this.

Havint we enough….. the taxpayer is paying for you all
You try to convince the community your there for them when in reality your there for yourselves
Labour is a joke you threw it all away
You all talk the talk it doesn’t mean anything to the mass of people
We want action not empty words
People in power have lost any principles they may have had along with respect.
I work and live in the community I don’t see any of the mayors listening to what the community’s needs are
Get out there and meet people stop all this pomp and ceremony otherwise all your talk doesn’t mean a thing to the ordinary person

I think you have to change at Bidston Station for North Wales, Shotton and beyond.
It serves Flintshire more? But you can change at Chester for North Wales too!
Not to sure on journey times.

You have to currently change at Bidston, Proposals exist to electrify a section or all of the line with incorporation into the Wirral line of the Merseyrail network, allowing through services to the underground sections of Birkenhead and Liverpool and onwards to Liverpool John Lennon Airport. Which would mean the majority of the Wirral would have access to a Merseyrail station nearby and adding both Wrexham and much of Flintshire to the city regions catchment area.

If Steve is keen on new stations can I ask him to look at what should be Town Meadow station between Moreton & Meols on Wirral line. Merseyrail have owned the land since 1978! Residents on local estates keep demanding it be built but with no success. It would be very well used.
