RICS award winners announced

The restored Blencow Hall in Penrith was named project of the year by judges at the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors' North West awards last night.

 Blencow HallThe restoration project, which also won in the best building conservation category, was praised by judges for reviving an unused tourist destination into holiday accomodation.

Andrew Kellaway, chairman of the regional judging panel and senior partner at quantity surveyors Todd & Ledson, said: "Blencow Hall is an outstanding example of the talent and originality which the North West property sector has to showcase. It fulfilled not only the criteria for the Building Conservation category, it also met and exceeded all the other awards we offer."

Other winners at the event, held in Gorton Monastery in Manchester, were:

Commercial: Root Hill Estate Yard, Clitheroe

Design & Innovation – New Site Entrance at BAE Systems, Balderstone

Regeneration: Covered Market Hall, Stockport

Sustainability: Chadderton Wellbeing Centre, Oldham

Community: Gorton Educational Village, Manchester

Residential: Belong Wigan

Tourism & Leisure – the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel, Chester
