Captain Tony O'Keefe said he was confident of retaining the Roses Trophy and has chosen his squad to take advantage of the current warm weather conditions and is planning a wide and expansive game.

He added: "Strength and steel up front combined with a razor-sharp attacking back line is always difficult to beat. With match winners such as Molloy, Oakey, Newlove and Roddam on top form the watching crowd are in for a real treat of festival football not seen since the halcyon days of Baxendell, Blanco and Rives."

Supporters are welcome to attend the matches with monies raised being given to Claire House, the North West team's chosen charity

The order of play will be:

3pm North West v Yorkshire

3.50 pm Midland v Yorkshire

4.40pm North West V Midlands

The event is sponsored by Kirkbride Group, Stoford and Henry Boot Developments.

a great event last year, only gripe is that there was a lack of ethnic minority players on each team.

Its Rugby, who wants to play can play….next you will be wanting women on the team….! Admittedly there are a few women in property that I wouldn’t want to scrummage against!!

Very disappointed not to see Stu Mair at 10, we could do with his pace and elusiveness.

By Rob Andrew
