Peel selects Clennell for Media City UK position

Peel Media has appointed Paul Clennell as chief technology officer on its Media City UK senior management team.

Clennell is currently programme director at Red Bee Media in London, where he has worked since 2003. He is due to take up his new role at Media City UK in the autumn.

His experience includes two years with BBC Technology working on the refurbishment of all BBC English regions' radio and bi-media sites. At Red Bee Media, he was responsible for the migration to Broadcast Centre of BBC, UKTV and BBC Worldwide Channels. He is currently focused on the transfer of Channel 4's operations from its central London HQ to Red Bee Media's Broadcast Centre.

In July, Peel Media announced Sinead Greenaway would be joining as chief executive officer at Media City UK in the autumn. Greenaway is working as the operations director at Virgin Media Television at present.

Construction of Media City UK began in 2007 following the BBC's confirmation it would be relocating around 2,500 staff, including five departments currently based in London, to Salford Quays.

The University of Salford has also confirmed it will have a Media City UK presence, with a brand new campus containing facilities for up to 700 students and staff.

In addition, Peel Media recently announced a collaboration with Ascent Media Group to provide a range of services at Media City UK.

The first phase of Media City UK in Salford Quays, being developed by Peel Media, a special purpose subsidiary of Peel Holdings, opens in 2011.
