Morgan Ashurst to extend UCLan science block
The University Of Central Lancashire has awarded Morgan Ashurst with a £9m contract for a 40,000 sq ft design-and-build science block.
The four-storey teaching and laboratory space will be an extension to the existing Maudland Building and will provide accommodation for the schools of forensic and investigative sciences and pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences.
UCLan expects the building to achieve a BREEAM 'excellent' score for environmental standards. The project, partly financed by the European Union, is scheduled to complete ready for the academic year starting in September 2010.
In January this year, the university, advised by construction consultancy Gardiner & Theobald in Manchester, invited bids from firms with no less than £20m annual turnover to ensure the financial capacity is in hand for the work.
The building to be extended is situated on the corner of Maudland Road and Leighton Street and forms part of the university's ongoing expansion of its estate.
