Merseyrail runs late for Christmas party goers

Late night trains will run every weekend before 25 December, starting this weekend, in a first for Merseyrail.

There will be two trains, one to Southport and one to Hooton in Wirral, both leaving at 1.30am from Liverpool Central.

Trains will run on Sunday 30 November, Sunday 7 December, Sunday 14 December, Saturday 20 December, Sunday 21 December.

Passengers will only be allowed to board services at Liverpool Central, stops will be limited and the trains will not pick up passengers. A flat rate of £3 will be charged.

The Northern Line train to Southport train will leave Liverpool Central at 1.30am and arrive at Southport at 2.04am. The train will only stop to drop passengers off at Waterloo and Formby and will not stop at any other stations on this line.

The Wirral Line train will leave Liverpool Central at 1.30am and arrive at Hooton at 1.52am. It will only stop to drop passengers off at Birkenhead Central, Bebington and Bromborough and will not stop at any other stations on this line.

Some very interesting train journeys are going to be had! People getting on who fall asleep as they are drunk and miss their stop, people just drunk who didnt really want that train but cant get back off again.And drunks not allowed to get on! Sounds nuts!

… Hooton, with a population of? Neatly linking to the park and ride? Why not west kirby, Ellesmere Port or Chester?
