McLaren Construction to build £41m Asda depot

McLaren Construction has been appointed as main contractor on a £41m distribution facility for Asda in Rochdale.

The 530,000 sq ft development at Kingsway Business Park will include a chilled warehouse, offices, a 130,000 sq ft service centre and a vehicle depot.

The London-based developer said it will be a "low carbon building" with a rainwater harvest system, LED lighting, combined heat and power fuelled by renewable biofuels and a waste heat collection system.

Managing director Phil Pringle said: "We look forward to using our extensive experience in the distribution sector and our industry leading sustainability knowledge and delivery track record to enable Asda's ambitions for this development."

In the summer McLaren hired Graham Lumberg from Morgan Sindall as northern director to drive business in the region.
