Knowsley houses tap into new funding

The first homes to be built in Knowsley under the 2011-2015 National Affordable Housing Programme are now completed at Bracknell Avenue in Kirkby.

Knowsley Housing Trust, part of the First Ark Group, was awarded £5m from NAHP pot via the Homes & Communities Agency to build 229 homes.

The £737,000 Bracknell Avenue project, delivered by local contractor Fairtree Homes, contains six four- and three-bedroom homes for affordable rent and completed before Christmas.

Ian Thomson, KHT executive director of assets, said: "We will continue to roll out the National Affordable Housing Programme in Knowsley and completing the first development is a significant milestone.

"This investment will offer hundreds of families the chance of a home and will help revitalise communities, providing a better housing offer for years to come."

Christina Callaghan was one of the first tenants of Bracknell Avenue with her husband Paul, daughter Olivia, 15, and six-year-old son Gabriel. She said: "Our new home is fantastic. It is much more spacious than where we were previously living and a much quieter area. Moving in was even more special as we could enjoy Christmas together here in our new home."
