Harris furniture sold off

PKF and Eddisons have launched an online auction to sell the entire stock of Warrington and Altrincham-based furniture retailer J Harris & Sons, which went into administration last month.

The public auction will run until the middle of next week at www.eddisons.com/online

Kerry Bailey and Jon Newell of PKF were appointed joint administrators of J Harris & Sons on 17 September. The company operated two furniture shops under the trading names of Andrew Harris Furniture in Warrington and Mr Bedds in Altrincham.

Bailey said: "J Harris & Sons was a family business that traded for over 70 years with a good name within the retail furniture market. Efforts were made by management over the last few months to turn the business around but the retail market is incredibly difficult, particularly for furniture, and they could not generate the volume to keep the company afloat. It's desperately sad for everyone involved but, unfortunately, it's far from unique.

"The auction comprises over 600 lots and includes a wide range of household furniture – everything from lamps, cabinets and mirrors to beds, tables and sofas. Proceeds will be used to repay creditors."

Customers who paid for goods or left deposits at either Andrew Harris Furniture or Mr Bedds and have not received them are advised to email PKF's Manchester office at cri.manchester@uk.pkf.com as soon as possible.
