Glenbrook and Graham start on Cornbrook apartments

In its latest project with developer Glenbrook, contractor Graham has started work on a 280-home scheme at Cornbrook, Manchester, designed by architect Sheppard Robson.

The two residential blocks rise to 15 and 14 storeys and feature 280 apartments for private rent on a site just off Trentham Street. There is also commercial space at ground floor of one of the blocks.

The project is being brought forward alongside proposals by Peel to build a 155-bedroom hotel and an 88-unit aparthotel, which has been designed by Leach Rhodes Walker.

A hybrid planning application for the project was lodged in February, with Glenbrook going for full planning permission on the apartments, while Peel’s application for the hotel was outline.

This was given approval in June this year, and Graham has now started preparatory works on the scheme ahead of a two-year construction programme.

The project’s concrete frame is set to start in January next year, while both blocks are set to complete in summer 2020. The professional team includes Atkins, daylight consultant GIA, structural engineer Sheppard Gilmour, Oxford Archaeology and Beachfield Consulting Engineers. Brabners also advises Glenbrook.

Peel has not yet set a start date for the hotel.

Graham is already working with Glenbrook on two projects in Manchester and Salford: the first is nearby at Ellesmere Street, where work is well under way on a £40m scheme containing 232 apartments, designed by architect AEW.

The contractor is also on site at Erie Basin in Salford Quays with the developer, where it is delivering 270 apartments over two 16-storey blocks.
