Maghull Group has appointed CBRE to market Formby Hall Golf Resort & Spa, a 62-bedroom hotel which sits within 183-acres of parkland in Merseyside.

Formby Hall is located between Southport and Liverpool. The asking price for the estate was undisclosed.

Formby Hall Golf Club PLC reported a turnover of £7.1m in the year to the end of March 2014. The profit for the year was £292,714. The company had a net book value of £13.8m in 2014. There was £12m of bank debt and £1.6m owed to directors. Bank facilities were due for renewal in January 2015, according to the results.

No one at Maghull was immediately available for further comment.

The hotel is part of the four-star luxury spa and golf resort including several restaurants.

The resort is known for the Formby Hall Golf Club, which hosts events including the European Challenge Tour, the Senior and European Pro Tour, and the England Golf Coast Pro-Am.

The golf operation includes an 18 hole parkland championship par course, 9 hole par 3 course, driving range and PGA Academy.

Shaun Skidmore, senior director of CBRE, said: "Formby Hall Golf Resort & Spa an exceptionally highly regarded resort with strong commercial appeal and the potential for considerable growth, particularly if the development opportunities are exploited. The resort is being sold unencumbered and offers a purchaser the potential to either partner with an international brand or operator or continue trading successfully as an independent resort. This is an incredibly unique opportunity and we are anticipating high levels of interest."
