Enlarged Aldi approved in Morecambe

Lancaster City Council has granted planning permission for a replacement Aldi food store on the supermarket’s current site on Marine Road West, close to Morecambe town centre.

HOW Planning acted as planning consultant for the retailer, whilst The Harris Partnership is the scheme’s architect.

The plans for the site include the demolition of the existing Aldi store and the adjoining Empire Arcade, which houses the Morecambe Super Bowl bowling alley. On completion the development will deliver a larger Aldi, car park, dedicated servicing area and enhanced vehicular access.

Lee Shaw, planner at HOW, said: “We look forward to seeing the site being redeveloped once the existing buildings have been cleared. The significant investment proposed by Aldi and the replacement food store will not only improve consumer choice even further but will also contribute to the ongoing regeneration of central Morecambe.”

HOW has acted for Aldi, now one of the world’s largest retail groups with over 7,000 stores globally and 700 in the UK, since 2012, securing a series of consents across the North West.
