Churchill wins consent for Sale retirement homes

Developer Churchill Retirement Living has been granted planning permission from Trafford Council for a development of 49 one and two bedroom apartments in Sale, Greater Manchester.

The scheme is planned to be built on 0.65 acre site, previously occupied by the former Bar 2 pub, on Hope Road and is within walking distance of Sale town centre.

The development will comprise an owners' lounge, guest suite and communal gardens.

Spencer McCarthy, chairman and group managing director, said: "Construction will get underway in March 2011 with first occupations anticipated in May 2012.

"The site has been vacant for some considerable time and the redevelopment will make a positive contribution to the area. There is a significant need for private sheltered housing for older people in Sale and this new development will assist in making up some of the shortfall. We are now preparing the technical drawings and carrying out site preparation works."

I can’t wait for a 5 storey building right near my house! I can’t believe this was rejected then 2 years later passed without consultation of local residents. I’m just wondering how long it will take for the elderly residents to start complaining about the local bars…

I doubt that every dwelling will have a car, most retired people choose not to have one! Also if you choose to live near bars and pubs then you have to accept the noise levels, no one forces you to live there!
