Cheshire East housing design guide launches

Cheshire East Council is inviting developers to sessions next week to discuss the new residential design guide for the borough.

Two sessions are due to take place on the evening of Wednesday 18 November in the Committee Suite at Westfields, Sandbach. The first session is scheduled for 5.15pm to 6.45pm and the second to run from 7pm to 8.30pm.

The design guide, produced by e*SCAPE Urbanists commissioned by the council, will be published shortly on the CEC website.

The guide covers design approach, Masterplanning & Urban Design, use of Context and Vernacular, Street and Public Realm Design, Parking, Green Infrastructure and Landscape Design, Sustainability and Quality of Life. The principles follow the Building for Life 12 industry standard for developing new homes.

Roger Lomas, managing director of e*SCAPE Urbanists and author of the guide, said: “Workshops have been run with council members and officers from across the council to get them up to speed with content, capacity building and how to use the guide on a day-to-day basis – through this testing process the guide has been further refined.  Now it’s the developers turn to review and provide feedback prior to wider public engagement.”

Any developers or consultants interested in attending should contact David Hallam via e-mail: David.Hallam@cheshireeast.gov.uk or Roger Lomas, roger.lomas@escape-urbanists.com.

House builders don’t care about good design and they build so little that people desperate to buy will purchase whatever rubbish builders build. This guidance will be ignored.

By Good luck with that!
