Cash flows into Irwell River Park

Work is to start on rejuvenating The Meadows area in Broughton, Salford following approval of a £175,000 funding package.

Part of the Irwell River Park project, the work will see the laying of footpaths made from recycled crushed stone around the perimeter of the site, with work set to be completed in the next month.

The project is funded by the North West Development Agency under its Newlands partnership with the Forestry Commission.

A later phase, pending a separate funding bid, will include fencing, meadow and woodland planting, wetland creation and a footpath link to Peel Park.

Chris Farrow, chief executive of Central Salford urban regeneration company, said: "The Meadows is a hidden gem within the heart of the city. It is an essential component of Irwell River Park, providing people with a space to enjoy, explore and relax in."
