Cargo levels soar at Manchester Airport

Manchester Airport reported a 10.3% annual growth in cargo with 166,500 tonnes handled in 2007.

Cargo manager Michael O'Connor said: "Whilst growth early in the year was modest, it was the momentum gained from the five new freighter services that we attracted from spring onwards that gave a significant boost to our volumes as the year progressed".

The new services were for Great Wall Airlines, Jett8 Airlines, FedEx Express, Air China Cargo and Aeroflot Cargo.

O'Connor added: "These new airlines showed a confidence in the northern UK market, and this has been helped not least by a choice of quality ground handling suppliers and a large regional forwarder market."
