Bury’s Metrolink car parking to increase

Metrolink's park-and-ride facilities at Radcliffe and Whitefield in Bury are to be increased by 52% as they are approaching operating at capacity.

Bury Council approved two applications from Transport for Greater Manchester for the addition of a new deck to the parking areas at each facility.

The work will begin in early 2014 and will increase the number of car parking spaces at Radcliffe from 250 to 364 and at Whitefield from 127 to 210.

Cllr Andrew Fender, chairman of the TfGM Committee, said: "The parking facilities at Radcliffe and Whitefield are starting to reach their maximum capacity. That's why Metrolink is expanding the car parks at both sites, which are provided free of charge to passengers, so I'm delighted that we've secured planning permission and can now press on."

During construction, the facilities will be closed or at reduced capacity for a period of time. Further information about this will be available closer to the start of work.

All park and ride facilities are free to Metrolink customers with a valid ticket.
