Bury shopping centre wins BCSC award

Bury's Mill Gate shopping centre was the overall winner of the 2009 Achieving Customer Excellence award at this week's British Council of Shopping Centres Shopping Centre Management conference in Liverpool.

Owned by Scottish Widows Investment Partnership, Mill Gate was also given an ACE award for its own size category, with another three shopping centres collecting awards within separate size categories.

These included:

  • Up to 200,000 sq ft – Westfield the Friary, Guildford
  • 200,000 to 400,000 sq ft – Mill Gate, Bury
  • 400,000 to 800,000 sq ft – Eastgate Shopping Centre, Basildon
  • Over 800,000 sq ft – Westfield Derby

The short-listed centres were selected following a series of visits to each centre by an accredited mystery shopping company during both busy and quiet periods. The audit took into account a range of personnel factors and facilities. The short-listed destinations then received a further visit by judges from the ACE Awards Jury.

The British Council of Shopping Centres Shopping Centre Management conference is an annual gathering of centre and asset managers from retail destinations and shopping centres across the UK.
