Blackpool tenders for £50m housing project
Blackpool Council is seeking a development partner to deliver a £50m housing-led regeneration scheme over the next 10 years.
Within the council's published tender document it said the project is titled the "Rigby Road development opportunity" and involves 17.7 acres in total on either side of Seasiders Way being redeveloped.
The council added that a majority of the site is in public ownership and remaining interests are being acquired by the public sector. The site will be decontaminated by the council prior to development.
The development partner will work closely with the council and the Homes & Communities Agency to build approximately 400 houses.
Cllr Simon Blackburn, leader of Blackpool Council, said: "It is with both pride, and a keen sense of expectation, that we seek expressions of interest in the Tyldesley Road and Rigby Road areas.
"We are seeking to enter into a partnership with people who share our desire to drive forward positive changes in the Blackpool housing market. We want to match people's aspirations, to create a town in which people aspire to live, work, visit and relax.
"Our approach so far has been to secure sustainable regeneration by improving our existing housing stock. This site offers a unique opportunity to deliver the second strand of our vision – new, high quality private sector housing, utilising the highest standards of design to create a distinctive neighbourhood."
The site will be accessed by following Yeadon Way and Seasiders Way from the M55 motorway.
The development will be expected to introduce green infrastructure to the area and capitalise on the area's coastal character, the council said.
Deadline for PQQs is 12pm on Friday 16 September and invitations to tender will be sent out on 30 September.
The council is being advised through this procurement process by GVA's planning development and regeneration team based in Manchester.
