The Lake District National Park Authority has approved plans for a 14,000 sq ft Sainsbury's foodstore on a 2.2-acre site close to the centre of Ambleside.
Acting on behalf of Maple Grove Developments, HOW Planning negotiated permission for the scheme, which will deliver a new foodstore with undercroft car parking, landscaping and public realm. The site is adjacent to Hayes Garden World and was formerly a display area for the garden centre.
Daniel Brown, principal planner at HOW Planning, said: "We worked hard to convince the Local Authority of the merits of our planning case and look forward to seeing this important site being redeveloped. The scheme has received strong public support and the site represents the only real opportunity to expand and enhance the food retail offer of Ambleside so that 'weekly' shopping needs can be met locally."
Hadfield Cawkwell Davidson acted as architect on the project.
