New housing approved for Tarporley

Taylor Wimpey has been granted consent to build housing and sports facilities in Tarporley, Cheshire.

The 13 acre site in Brook Road, to the south of the village centre and part of which previously housed a school building, has already been cleared for development. The planning approval paves the way for redevelopment with the construction of residential units with additional sports and recreation facilities to be developed at a later date.

A hybrid application was submitted incorporating full details for 90 houses including 30 affordable homes and outline plans for a further 10 affordable homes and recreation facilities.

Cheshire West & Chester Council approved all elements of the scheme ensuring work can commence as soon as possible.

Richard Barton, associate at HOW Planning, said: "The vision for this scheme is to deliver a sustainable development, which has been derived following extensive public engagement. Approval of the application ensures our clients can help realise its full potential, delivering new homes and investment to the area."

Gareth Owen, land and planning director at Taylor Wimpey, said: "We are extremely pleased to have secured this permission and it is a testament to the consultation process and working with the local community which has enabled unanimous approval to be given by both council officers and the Strategic Planning Board."

"Cheshire West and Chester approved all elements of the scheme", well they would as they own the land.

Comments submitted by Tarporley residents to Cheshire West and Chester planning officers overwhelmingly objected to this development; describing, among other things, how the consultation process was flawed, hijacked by minority interest groups and not representative of the community.

I bet they’ll never build the sports and play facilities "to developed at a later date". Seen that done by developers by so many times, and all you’ll see is some cheap playground equipment in a tiny corner somewhere and a rusty old goal post.

Would Gareth Owen at Taylor Wimpey care to give an undertaking now that they will build the sports facilities? It was not the intention in the planning application that they would; only that land would be allocated for the Parish Council to fund and build sports facilities.

There really should be a separate mechanism for planning applications in which a local authority has an interest. Direct to a planning inspector for example. Bad for councils’ image even if there is no actual impropriety.

you can bet your bottom dollar that if it was a developer that owned the land that it would have been refused
