New gym for Salford Quays
Pure Gym has been granted planning permission for a 25,000 sq ft fitness centre in Salford Quays.
The gym will occupy a former post office depot at Exchange Quay, and will house more than 220 pieces of fitness equipment.
Development and infrastructure consultant Peter Brett Associates advised on the scheme.
PBA said this was the third consent secured on behalf of the gym operator within Greater Manchester, following the approval of proposals for a change of use and extension of a former car showroom at Bury New Road, and the conversion of a snooker hall and retail unit at Stretford Mall.
Brian Scurrah, development director at Pure Gym said: "This will be our sixth gym in the Manchester area and we are looking at additional locations around the city to continue our growth. We will have 90 gyms open throughout the UK by the end of 2014."
Jonathan Wadcock, associate planner in the Manchester office of PBA, said: "The presence of Pure Gym will further enhance the leisure offer at Salford Quays and will contribute to the ongoing regeneration of the Ordsall Riverside area, complementing the nearby Soapworks scheme and the proposed refurbishment of the Exchange Quay office development."
Virgin Active also has a gym facility in Salford Quays.
