MIPIM VIDEO | Wigan gears up for growth
Wigan Council has laid the foundations for large-scale development in its borough and now is the time to deliver, according to the council’s director of place Aidan Thatcher.
Projects like the redevelopment of Eckersley Mill into a housing-led destination, the Northfold growth zone, the transformation of the Galleries shopping centre, and the station gateway overhaul make Wigan one of the most exciting places to invest in Greater Manchester.
Westwood Park, a 58-acre site close to the M6 is also poised to play a “pivotal role” in shaping Wigan’s future, Thatcher said.
While seeking private sector investment to deliver the next phase of projects, Thatcher is keen to point out that the council is not afraid of putting its hand in its own pocket to get schemes going.
You can hear more of Thatcher’s thoughts on Wigan’s current and future regeneration plans in the video at the top of this post, or by watching the video on the Place North YouTube channel.
