Mersey Gateway registration opens

Merseyflow, the tolling system set up to enable easy travel across the new Mersey Gateway bridge has reported a successful first day of registration, with 3,304 people signed up by midnight on Monday.

The service’s website, call centre and walk-in centre are now open for business, with 90% of the first day’s sign-ups opting to register online. Registration also includes use of the Silver Jubilee bridge once it is refurbished.

The tolling system is being operated by Emovis, a subsidiary business of Abertis, a global operator with more than 8,000km of toll roads under contract.

Anthony Alicastro, chief executive of Emovis Operations, said: “The walk-in centre had a constant stream of people registering from 8am yesterday, while we have seen a huge amount of visitors to our website.

“There has been a huge amount of interest online, at the walk-in centre and from people contacting us over the phone. It’s been busy and I’d like to thank people for their patience as we get bedded in.”
