Lord Mandelson confirmed for Salford conference
Lord Peter Mandelson, first secretary of state and secretary of state for business, innovation and skills has been confirmed as a guest speaker at a Smart City Futures conference being held at The Lowry in Salford next month.
Lord Mandelson is appearing on the first day of the conference and will discuss the importance of innovation, collaboration and re-invention of regions and cities. Other speakers include:
- Jim O'Neill, chief economist at Goldman Sachs
- Sir Howard Bernstein, chief executive, Manchester City Council
- Lesley Gavin, BT's first female futurologist
The Smart City Futures conference brings together leaders from business, academia and regeneration to discuss the opportunities which present themselves during times of economic difficulty.
Universities of Salford, Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan have collaborated to hold the Smart City Futures conference.
The agenda during the three-day event will be to explore issues such as competing in the global economy, tackling climate change and trading with the emerging economies.
A debate on nurturing talent will take place in the afternoon of day two, which gives delegates a chance to ask questions and get involved with the speakers and panelists from days one and two.
Day three looks at how universities, industry and government work together to feed cities and regions with the talent, skills and opportunities they need to create a stronger, cleaner and fairer global city economy.
The Smart City Futures: Securing City and Regional Prosperity international conference is taking place on Tuesday 21 July until Thursday 23 July this year.
