JV submits plans for Runcorn district centre

A partnership between Lane End and Williams Tarr Construction has put forward plans for a mixed-use scheme including a convenience store and 48 homes for over-55s in Sandymoor.

Warrington-based contractor and developer Lane End said that it expects the proposals for a vacant 3.9-acre site around Sandymoor Community Hall to be well received locally.

The plans, designed by architect PRP, consist of 43 one and two-bedroom apartments, as well as five bungalows; along with a children’s day nursery and six retail units. Discussions are taking place with a national convenience store operator, which Lane End hopes to announce upon the securing of planning consent.

Richard Harrison, managing director of the Lane End Group, said: “This is a really impressive development as it fuses the challenges of bringing in much needed over-55s housing stock into the area with some excellent commercial opportunities for retailers that will bring added value and convenience to Sandymoor.

“There is little housing stock in this part of Runcorn that is designed for over-55s living and our plans provide exactly that. We believe this new district centre will be a popular and vibrant part of the community in Sandymoor which is good news for Halton.”

Landscape architect Urban Green is also engaged on the project. The plans include 75 parking spaces, nine of them allocated for disabled parking. The site is close to Morris Homes’ The Meadows development.

The scheme will front Otterburn Street, with the elderly living apartment block to the right of the popular community centre. Parking will be at the front of the site, with the nursery and five retail units, clad in brick and timber, behind and the convenience store to the left, shielded from Pitts Heath Lane by trees.

The five bungalows will be at the north of the site, accessed from Pitts Heath Lane, close to the existing housing estate.
